The iconic Stari Most ("old bridge") spans the Neretva River in Mostar. The town was heavily damaged during the fighting, first against ethnic Serbs in 1992, and then between ethnic Croats and Muslims from 1992 - 1995. The bridge, originally built in the 16th century, was destroyed in November 1993. It was rebuilt and opened in 2004, and is now a U.N. World Heritage Site.
